Technology Commercialization

Technology is the currency of the global marketplace, and Alberta must be able to deal in every denomination – in relevant and applicable research, in value-added sectors, in knowledge-based industries, and in developing centres of excellence.

The capability and capacity to commercialize technology needs to be available for the new discoveries and products that will arise from the focused and targeted research and innovation within the province.

Premier Stelmach has requested that Advanced Education and Technology develop a strategy for technology commercialization and economic diversification with a focus on:
  1. exploring ways to encourage growth and productivity in value added sectors,
  2. encouraging investment and research in knowledge-based industries,
  3. exploring ways to encourage the growth of venture capital in Alberta,
  4. developing Centres of Excellence in commercialization, and
  5. working with industry to develop new markets for value-added products.

Alberta's Action Plan Bringing Technology to Market implements the strategy with a coordinated plan of wide-ranging actions designed to create sustainable knowledge-based jobs and opportunities for Albertans in our advanced technology sectors. To read more about the Action Plan click here.
